Spearstone, a Salt Lake City, Utah based company, is expanding their DiskAgent data protection & theft prevention offerings to now include smartphones such as palm, windows mobile and blackberry.
We spoke with Hayden Hartland, President & CEO of Spearstone, who helped us understand the landscape for tools such as DiskAgent, and how these tools can help corporate organizations as well as individuals or small businesses seeking peace-of-mind about data protection, recovery, and theft protection.
Some of the tools the Smartphone offering will initially include are:
- Lock your phone with a password
- Force your phone to ring
- Obtain the location of your GPS enabled phone
- Erase all of the data on your phone as well as any attached memory cards
- Render your phone inoperable for anyone else (even if they replace the SIM card)
- And more…
These services can be used to find a lost phone or render a lost phone useless (forensically wiping the data from the device and any attached memory storage) up-to and including rendering the cell phone totally unusable by reporting its serial number to the cellular carriers so they will not service it. Or, if you want to recover that super-expensive smartphone hardware, the software can notify you if your phone is ever re-activated, even if the user has inserted a new SIM card into the phone, you will be notified of their phone number for contact purposes.
Soon, they will support Symbian phones, and they are working to integrate with Apple iPhone if that becomes possible.
