This week on the show, we spoke to Scott Nelson, Vice President of Marketing for ProPay, a credit card processing and electronic payment service for businesses of all sizes, from multinational corporations to even home-based entrepreneurs. The company, which was founded in 1997, has more than 100 employees, and is headquartered in Orem, Utah.
We spoke with Scott about their recent annoucement that all eBay Power Sellers can use ProPay to accept payments on eBay.
We also discussed their new Protect Pay service which is a “secure data repository that enables merchants to safely store their customers’ sensitive payment data with ProPay
rather than retain this data within their own systems. Merchants can easily access the stored data for ongoing business transactions.”
Finally, we talked about a pretty awesome new device they have called a MicroSecure Card Reader which enables both online and offline credit card swiping. When used online, connected to a computer via USB cable, the device allows for a point-of-sale type card swipe, card verification, and then the data is deleted to retain security. However, when used offline, the reader securely stores card information for retrieval later, when connected to the ProPay website, where it processes the card, and removed the sensitive information from its memory.
