Dr. Winters is the Executive Director of the BioInnovations Gateway, a new model life science business incubator providing a mechanism to mutually benefit research-based student training and life science start-up businesses, through the use of shared facilties, equipment, technical resources, and talent.
Previously, Suzanne served as the Salt Lake County Outreach Director for the Utah Science Technology and Research Initiative( USTAR), responsible for developing closer ties between the state’s research institutions of higher education and technology based businesses. Prior to joining UST AR, Dr. Winters worked in technology commercialization for Battelle, a non-profit contract research and development.
Dr. Winters served for 8 years as the Utah State Science Advisor under Governor Leavitt. In that capacity, she advised the Governor and legislature of the State of Utah on matters relating to science and technology and their applications to government, industry and public issues, including serving as liaison between the State of Utah and U.S. defense installations within the state.
Dr. Winters’ holds a Bachelor degree in Zoology and a Doctorate in Pharmaceutics. Her research employment was in development of biomedical devices and materials such as the Jarvik 7 total artificial heart and the CardioPulmonics’ ivOX, the “artificial lung”.
She serves on the Board of Directors of The LeonardoêLibrary Square, the Industry Advisory Board of the UU College of Engineering and Governor Huntsman’s BioVision Task Force.
